Born in Austin, Texas, in January 1915, Alan Lomax was the son of renowned folklorist John Lomax, whose pioneering Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier BalladsI had been first published in 1910, followed in 1919 by Songs of the Cattle Trail and Cow Camp2.
